Horses

The ideal CRDA horse or pony has had varied experiences such as pony club, dressage and hacking. We lease or buy suitable horses and ponies.

Our horses enter the programme for a minimum of six weeks, on trial, and receive training to see if they are safe and suitable for our therapeutic riding programmes. Each horse has its own fitted saddle and a rider weight limit. Their workload and health are monitored daily by our Horse Care Coordinator and Horse Care Committee.

CRDA has an equine team of up to 14 horses and ponies, all of varying ages and breeds. With feed, farrier, vet costs and tack, the annual cost per horse averages $3000.00.
